2012 Water Quality Report

The 2012 MLA water quality monitoring program was a success. In all, over 100 volunteers collected 1152 samples. The reports detailing the results of the program are now available for download below. This year, the collection and analysis methods are documented in a special report separate from the results report, allowing the main report to focus on results.

Key messages from the results report are as follows:

  • Monitored lakes have consistently good water quality that is suitable for recreational use.
  • Most E.Coli values recorded are well within the expected range of values that would occur naturally; most were also below the MLA guideline.
  • Calcium data suggests that concentrations are in a range that could limit the success of many organisms that play important roles in lake health.
  • We continued to focus more detailed monitoring on ‘Action Areas’ that were identified in 2011

Planning is well underway for the 2013 water quality initiative. If you would like to be involved, we are looking for assistance in liaising with our local politicians and speaking about our program to interested partners and other community groups; your help would be very much appreciated.

If you have any questions or concerns, or would like to volunteer, please feel free to contact the MLA office at 705-765-5723
